COUNSELORS

Training

All counselors and sports coaches are 18 years and older. They each go through a fingerprinting process with the LA Sheriff Department and are TB tested; most are CPR and First Aid Trained. Most members of our adult staff were either campers at Monarch Camps as children or work year round with children at a school or after-school program. Communication between groups and counselors is facilitated by Lead Counselors: veteran counselors that embody our belief that campers come first and help guide our counselors to better connect and serve our campers.

JUNIOR COUNSELORS

Training

Junior Counselors (JC) are teenagers ages 14-17 that assist counselors in the camp’s day to day operations, such as interacting with children, insuring group safety, and organizing activities. Most JC’s have been through our Counselor-In-Training (CIT)program and all go through an intensive training cycle. They receive volunteer hours for school and in most cases were campers themselves.

ACA Accreditation

What Does This Mean?

We are fully accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA). ACA Accreditation means that the camp you are considering for your child cares enough to undergo a thorough (over 300 standards) review of its operation – from staff qualifications and training too emergency management.

About American Camp Association:

The American Camp Association collaborates with experts from The American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Red Cross, and other youth service agencies to assure that current practices at the camp reflect the most up-to-date, research-based standards in camp operation. Monarch Camps and ACA form a partnership that promotes summers of growth and fun in an environment committed to safety. Monarch Camps partners with ACA to provide:

  • Healthy, developmentally-appropriate activities and learning experiences
  • Discovery through experiential education
  • Caring, competent role models
  • Service to the community and the environment
  • Opportunities, leadership, and personal growth
