THEATRE ARTS CAMP

Title:

Description:

Theatre Arts Camp – Where Creativity Takes the Spotlight!

At our Theatre Arts Camp, campers dive into the dynamic world of performing arts, exploring everything from the fundamentals of acting to the excitement of improvisation and the art of sketch comedy. This immersive experience offers a well-rounded approach to theatre, allowing each camper to develop their skills in a variety of theatrical genres, including classical and contemporary plays, musical theatre, and improvisation.

What to Expect:

  • Introduction to Acting: Campers will begin by learning the fundamentals of stage performance, including how to project their voices, express emotions, and use body language to communicate effectively. They will practice acting techniques through fun exercises, games, and scene work, giving them a strong foundation in performance.
  • Improvisation and Sketch Comedy: Emphasis will be placed on the principles of improvisational theatre and sketch comedy, teaching campers how to think on their feet, collaborate with others, and create spontaneous scenes. Through games and exercises, they’ll learn how to embrace their creativity and adapt to unexpected situations on stage.
  • Scene Study and Performance: Campers will explore and perform scenes from published plays, covering both classical and contemporary works. This experience will help them develop a deeper understanding of characterization, storytelling, and timing. They will also study and perform songs from iconic Broadway musicals, learning how to combine acting, singing, and movement to bring characters to life.
  • Creating and Performing Original Skits: One of the most exciting aspects of the camp is the opportunity for campers to develop their own story ideas into skits. With guidance from experienced instructors, campers will work together to brainstorm, write, rehearse, and perform their unique creations. These skits will be showcased within their group and presented to a larger audience, giving campers the chance to perform their work for others.
  • Stage Production and Behind-the-Scenes: Campers will also learn about what goes on behind the scenes in a theatre production. They’ll become familiar with the different parts of the stage, lighting, sound, and other essential backstage elements. Whether it’s helping set the stage, managing props, or assisting with costume changes, they’ll get a hands-on experience in putting together a full production.

Camp Highlights:

  • Broadway & Play Scene Study: Study and perform scenes from both classical and modern plays as well as songs from popular Broadway musicals
  • Improv & Sketch Comedy: Learn the art of improvisation and create original comedy skits
  • Stage Techniques: Understand acting warm-up techniques and learn the ins and outs of stage performance
  • Creative Collaboration: Work together to develop, rehearse, and perform original skits
  • Final Performance: In the final week, campers will star in their very own Theatre Arts movie that will have its premiere screening for the entire camp

By the end of the summer, campers will have gained not only the technical skills to succeed on stage, but also the confidence to express themselves creatively in front of others. They will leave the camp with a well-rounded theatre education and unforgettable memories of their time performing, creating, and collaborating with others.

Whether they dream of starring in the next big Broadway show, or just want to try something new, Theatre Arts Campwill give them the tools, knowledge, and experience they need to shine in the spotlight!
